The canoeing section of the Reial Club Nàutic Port de Pollença is a reference at regional, national and international level thanks to its achievements obtained with a lot of dedication, sacrifice and effort by its management team and the paddlers of the Club.
This section is structured in three levels: initiation, competition and technification. Its maximum reference is Sete Benavides who competes at international and Olympic level, achieving an Olympic diploma in 2012 and 2016.
The RCNPP paddlers form a cohesive team with participation in national and international regattas in the categories of K1, K2, C1 and C2. The RCNPP organizes races in the Balearic calendar and also in the Spanish Championship. The track record of our paddlers is one of the most important on the island. The canoeing section is composed of almost 40 athletes, 16 of them competing at national level and three at international level. It also has a good pool of cadet athletes that make us classify as the club with more medals in individual boats in Spain. On the other hand, the children's paddlers are not far behind and give us great joys.
This group includes the youngest athletes who wish to start in this sport.
The youngest ones make up this learning group. This is the most fun group in which students learn to paddle and compete by playing. The members of this group are between 7 and 12 years old. Here they cultivate the discipline of canoeing and train four days a week: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
This group has given many joys to the Club since it has many successes at Balearic level. They compete in all the promotional and club regattas in the Balearic Islands, including one in Menorca and another in Ibiza.
This group is made up of those athletes who have excelled in the learning group are grouped in initiation.
The national team groups all those athletes in the categories of children and cadets, able to compete in national competitions.
Of all the groups in the canoeing section, this is the one that is at the equator of the training line of a high level team. When they start this stage they stop being promoted and start learning towards high competition. It is undoubtedly the most unstable group of all, considering that they go from playing to competing at a high national level.
With the current team we have consolidated in recent years by winning medals in all the Spanish championships and being among the top three in Spain in the medal standings. The training days are from Monday to Saturday.
Technification is the group specialized in the technique of the athletes of the junior and senior categories, with the objective of maximizing the performance of each one of them.
The technification group is the most professional and complete of all. Its members train with rigor and constancy in order to qualify and attend the European and World Championships and even aspire to qualify for the Olympic Games.
These athletes dedicate a large part of their time to training and studying. Training at this level requires concentration and effort. It is the illusion of attending international competitions that makes high-level athletes forget the sacrifices they make to achieve their goals. Weekly training runs from Monday to Saturday, although many times it is from Monday to Sunday.
Members of this group qualified and competed in the 2014 European Championships. Special mention to Sete Benavides who won the silver medal in the modality C1 200 m in the European Canoe Championships held in Brandenburg, Germany and among other achievements, participated in the London 2012 and Rio 2016 Olympics obtaining in London the bronze medal and the diploma of the Olympics in Rio.
This group includes only those athletes in the junior and senior categories with sufficient capacity for international competitions.
